BBL Laser Treatment - Before and After

What is BBL Broadband Light?

BBL broadband light’s innovative technology set new standards for the treatment of skin conditions associated with aging, active lifestyles and sun damage. Considered the ninth generation of IPL, BBL allows your medical provider to tailor your treatment to match your skin’s condition.

What Issues Can BBL Treatment Help With?

BBL treatment is used to treat freckles, age spots, small blood vessels, and acne. It can also correct poor skin tone and uneven skin texture and is used to reduce unwanted hair. Patients who want to achieve improved skin firmness can also benefit from BBL treatments.

What Areas Can be Treated?

Any part of your body can be treated. The most common areas are those that are most exposed to the damaging effects of sunlight. The most popular treatments are for the face, neck, back of the hands, chest and shoulders. BBL is for lighter skin types 1 through 4.

How Does BBL Treatment Work?

The BBL system works by gently and gradually heating the top layers of the skin. As the heat is absorbed, the skin is prompted to make new collagen, which results in improved skin condition overall. The photothermal energy, when targeted precisely, will reduce undesirable skin marks such as spider veins, freckles, and age spots. As the photothermal energy is directed into the skin mark, it will break the melanin apart, causing it to scatter and be absorbed back into the body harmlessly. Patients will wear safety glasses during the treatment for eye protection. There is often a mild warmth accompanied by a slight snapping sensation during the treatment, but it's rarely painful. For patients who have highly sensitive skin, a numbing cream can be applied before the treatment to alleviate any discomfort. In most patients, the BBL treatment will take half and hour or less, but this does vary depending upon the number of treatment areas and the size of the areas to be treated.

How Many BBL Treatments Are Needed?

In order for the BBL treatment to be effective, you have to have an initial series to “load” the technology’s impact into your skin. This means 3-5 treatments at monthly intervals. Then, we recommend 1-2 treatments a year, either spaced out at about 6 months or back to back a month apart. We usually do 2 treatments and decide how to space them based on each patient’s skin. For instance, if you have a lot of brown and red “targets” that need back-to-back treatment with advancing power, we do the 2 treatments a month apart. If it’s really just maintenance, then we spread them out.

What to expect after BBL treatments?

This is a non-invasive and gentle procedure with virtually no downtime. In most cases, you will be able to return to work, apply make-up and resume most of your activities right away. You may experience some redness that should resolve in a few hours. For some pigmented lesions, you will see a darkening of the treated area followed by flaking and fading off between two or three weeks. Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine wrinkles and pores will be less noticeable, and sun spots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments and the area treated.
