What is Botox®?

Botox® is a quick, 10-15 minute procedure that requires no recovery or downtime, and non-invasive wrinkle treatment made from purified botulinum toxin protein. Botox® is FDA approved as a wrinkle relaxer in the forehead and eye areas. It is also used for control of migraine headaches and as a treatment for excessive sweating.

How Does Botox® Work to Relax Wrinkles?

Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. Botox® is a quick 10-minute treatment that works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines in adults. This allows wrinkles to relax and movement to lessen which prevents wrinkles from getting deeper and deeper.

What Are the Best Areas For Botox®?

The most popular area for Botox® is the forehead area. There are 2 main kinds of wrinkles that develop in the forehead: The horizontal lines above the brows and the vertical lines between the brows. Both sets of lines can be significantly reduced with Botox® injections. Another common area for Botox® is the crow's feet, the lines that form at the corners of the eyes when laughing or smiling. Botox® may sometimes be used to slightly lift the eyebrows, or even to lift the corners of a drooping mouth in some cases. Some patients have Botox® injected into the neck bands, as well.

How Long Will Botox® Treatment Last?

Botox® usually lasts around 3 to 4 months in most people. BOTOX® is not a permanent treatment.  If you discontinue treatment the moderate to severe frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines will gradually return.
