What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure used to renew overall skin tone and texture. It can improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring, melasma, and other skin-related concerns and conditions. A minimally abrasive instrument is used to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer of dead cells, cleaning out the pores, and stimulating the production of new cells. This results in a smoother skin texture. The procedure is painless and non-invasive. Multiple sessions may be required in some cases.

What type of instrument is used?

We use the DiamondTomeTM Crystal-free microdermabrasion system which uses a stainless steel diamond encrusted wand to gently remove the outer layer of dead cells. This stimulates the production of new cells and leaves your skin more vibrant. It is ideal for those bothered by sun damage, clogged pores and fine lines. It can also be a great compliment to topical acne medications, as it aids in their absorption.

What to expect after Microdermabrasion?

Treatments take about 25 to 45 minutes, and you will be able to return to work or normal activities right away. You may appear slightly flushed and red right after your treatment, though these effects should disappear within half an hour. You will need to wear sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure for several days. Many patients see a visible improvement after their very first treatment. However, for longer-lasting and more significant changes, you will probably require regular sessions every couple of months moving forward. Patients dealing with comedonal acne may require frequent treatments.
